Chapter 1

~Uncharted~
Chapter 1

The morning started out with hugs and goodbyes. My dad was the first to give me a hug. His strong arms wrapped around me and squeezed the air out of my lungs. I could swear I saw tears in his eyes."I'm so proud of you son." He told me, clapping me on the back. I winced at his action, he must be working out."My first child to go away to college, and on a scholarship! This is a great opportunity for you!" He continued.

"Yeah dad, it really is." I replied.
"So don't screw it up Micah Fey." He told me in a stern voice, then grinned at me. I looked over to see my girlfriend Honey engulfed in a hug by her mom, who was sobbing hysterically and clinging to her. She gave a me a "help me" look and I grinned at her. Her facial expressions were adorable.
I was lucky to have her going to college with me in Starlight Shores. We would even get to live together in a co-ed dorm.

I heard footsteps behind me and saw Honey's dad Fern coming up behind me.
"Hello Mr. Simmons." I greeted him.
"Now you listen here Micah Fey, that girl over there, that's my baby girl. I'm not for this whole go to college in a new town thing, and you coming along worries me."

"Now if you dare touch her, get physical in any way, or distract her from her schoolwork she will be coming back to Community College here. You break these rules and I will mount your head on a plaque above the fireplace, am I clear?" Fern Simmons asked me in a threatening tone.
I gulped and nodded quickly but Honey interrupted my response.
"Daddy leave him alone!" she said with an eye roll.

She wrapped her arms around my waist and smiled at me.
"You know Micah's a good guy." she said with a smile.
"Of course he is." Fern muttered walking off. I saw him give me a "mess with her and you're dead" look out of the corner of my eye.
"Don't mind him, he secretly likes you." She said before kissing my check then walking off to give my grandma a hug.

Honey's older brother Darwin was nearby and decided to give me his best wishes.
"So, congrats on the scholarship man." he told me, sipping a cup of my dad's homemade juice.
"Thanks man." I told him with a nod. I looked over at Mr. Simmons, who was still glaring at me."Honey said he secretly likes me." I said looking at Mr. Simmons.
 Darwin scoffed."Yeah, that's a lie."

"I figured." I answered feeling a bit dejected."Well someday I would hope to have his blessing to marry her..." I drifted off.
"Don't you think it's a bit soon for marriage talk? You guys are 18." Darwin said, eyeing me suspiciously.
"Hey you never know." I responded. He just shrugged before grinning.
"Don't party to hard." he laughed.
"I'll try," I responded, also laughing.I glanced over at my beautiful girlfriend who was still attempting to calm her crying mother.
"I left a 50 in the glove compartment, for gas you know." Mrs. Simmons reminded her.

"Ok mom, thanks." she responded, rubbing her mother's back
."There's also a map and a compass, in case you ever get lost." she said sadly.
"It's ok mom, it's not too far away..." Honey responded.
"Call me every day!" she said hysterically.
"...How about every couple of days?" she responded sweetly.
"I'm losing my baby!" she sobbed.
"Ok, everyday mom." Honey said, trying to ease her mother's tears.

Are you sure you have everything?" she asked her.
"I triple checked mom."
 "...I love you baby!"
"I love you too mom." she responded while her mother engulfed her in another hug. Fern finally managed to pull Honey's mom off her, and we were on our way.

I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel of my beat up truck while Honey sang along softly to the radio, flicking through the stations occasionally. As we drove up over the last mountain we admired the beautiful town of starlight shores below. Honey looked down at the beach, a wide grin spread over her face.

After a bit of  map reading and a couple of wrong turns we finally pulled into our dorm. It was an old brick building with ivy climbing up the side. It had a very formal look to it, classic looking widows with a sprawling in the front. It was located right in the heart of campus, next to the buildings where our classes would be. Honey and I looked at each other excitedly and then back at the building. This would be our home for the next four years.

I brought our boxes inside while Honey talked to our dorm adviser. He was a balding man with a large amount of fawn colored facial hair and sharp facial features. His skin made him appear a bit sickly, but he seemed to be in good spirits. She introduced me to him when I brought in the last box.

"Mr. Jayburd this is my boyfriend Micah." Honey said with a shy smile; I shook Mr. Jayburd's hand. "I'm Micah Fey." I said with a smile. He politely smiled back and looked at all our boxes.
"Well, you better take your things to your rooms." He said. "More students will be arriving and we can't have you taking up all the entryway." He said. "Honey Simmons you've been assigned to 1B. Micah Fey you are in 2A. The doors are labeled appropriately." He told us, before sidestepping us to greet another girl.

"So, let's move you in first." I said with a grin, and Honey smiled back at me sweetly. I grabbed the heavier boxes and she followed me up the stairs with a few lighter boxes filled with clothes.
"Geez, did you pack bricks or something?" I joked with her. She laughed.
"No, but I had to bring my books, at least my classics." she told me with a laugh.
"You have nine hundred classics!" I laughed.
"I couldn't leave them." she said giggling.

When we got to Honey's room I was surprised at how small it was. She had a loft bunk bed with white sheets and a white wooden desk underneath it. On the other side of the room was a small dresser. There was a bare bulb on the ceiling with a pull string. The carpet was a beige and the walls a plain white.

"So I've got all my desk stuff in that box, my bedding in that one, and my books in that corner." Honey told me, pointing at the boxes. I nodded.
"Where are you going to put all those books?" I asked her.
"My dad is having a bookshelf shipped, it just needs to be assembled." she told me.
"Well I'll do that as soon as it arrives." I said. She gave me a quick peck on the lips.

"I'm glad you're here with me Micah." She told me, and I wrapped my arms around her.
"I'm glad you're here too." I said, kissing her quickly on the forehead.
I helped Honey move the rest of her things into her room. Then I smiled as I saw her her sleeping on the yellow flower sheets she'd brought with her and quietly made my way out of her room.

My room wasn't any bigger, it looked the same as hers but the desk was made of an oak colored wood instead of white. I started pulling things out of boxes and placing them around strategically. I'd pretty much thrown my things into random boxes, aside from a small box that contained some pictures of Honey and I along with my family. I carefully arranged those on the dresser and the side of the desk. I set my laptop on my desk carefully and spread out my orange checkered blankets on my bed. Home sweet home.

After sending emails to my family telling them that Honey and I had arrived safely I wandered across the dorm into the dining area. Mr. Jayburd was at the stove cooking sushi and there was a girl sitting at the dining table holding a polite conversation with him. I had never seen a person of the berry race before, just heard of them. She had lavender colored skin with dark plum colored hair. Her eyes met mine and I saw they were a piercing silver.

"Mr. Fey, good to see you. How do you feel about sushi?" Mr. Jayburd asked me.
"That sounds great." I told him with a smile, I was starving from all the excitment. That and I hadn't had a decent home cooked meal since...well my dad couldn't really cook so probably my whole life.

I sat down across from the girl, nodding politely.
"Where are you from?" she asked suddenly, not bothering with introductions.
"Hidden Springs." I answered.
"I'm from Bridgeport, the city, maybe you've been there?"
"No, I've never been anywhere but Hidden Springs."
"How exciting." She replied sarcastically as she rolled her eyes.

"So then...what's your major?" I asked her, maybe she was just guarded when getting to know people?
"We go to a performing arts school, what do you think my major is?" she deadpanned.
"Well what area of the arts?" I asked her, trying not to show frusteration.
"Dance." she replied. "You?"
"I'm doing film."
"I've heard film is for people with no real talent." she told me.

I looked away at Mr. Jayburd plating the sushi.
"So what's your schedule?" she asked me.
"They sent the email out?" I asked. She rolled her eyes again.
"No, I just asked you randomly."
"Well I'll go get my laptop and check."
"Just use mine." she told me pushing her purple laptop across the table toward me.

"It looks like I have English 101, Intro to art, Math 201, Intro to film, Advanced computers, and Intro to music." I read aloud from the email the school had sent me.
"That sounds dull."
"Well what do you have?"
"I have English with you, intro to art, dance classes, and biology."
"Oh."
"Yeah, well we're set for English, I've heard Professor Kissa is an easy grader. I nodded in response.

Honey entered the room and I smiled at her. She smiled back and sat down on my lap.
"Why did you let me sleep so long?" she asked.
"You looked like you needed it, it's been an eventful day." She pecked my lips quickly and smiled at me.
The berry girl cleared her throat.
"I'm Sabina, but you can call me Sabby. You are?" she said.
"I'm Micah's girlfriend Honey." she said.
"Bringing the high school baggage to college." Sabby muttered. I didn't miss the look of hurt that flashed across Honey's face.

"Is this your schedule Micah? I saw mine." Honey told me.
"Yeah this is mine."
"We have intro to art together."
"Great! You can help me with sculpting!"
"And you can help me with everything else!"
She and I both laughed and Sabby made gagging noises in the background.

Mr. Jayburd served the sushi and took his seat at the head of the table. Another dorm mate with turqoise hair came in and we all ate sushi together, talking about the start of classes tomorrow.
I had a feeling that living in this dorm would turn out well, despite Sabby and her attitude.

That evening...

Honey and I walked hand-in-hand to her dorm. She glanced around for Mr. Jayburd before dragging me inside.
"What if that girl is right?" Honey asked me.

"Who? Sabby?"
"Yes her, what if she's right about me?"
"Wait, what? Right about what?"
She sighed and I turned around while she changed into her cute little short and tank top pajamas.

She looked at the ground awkwardly.
"What if I'm just baggage for you?" she whisered.
"You really think that?" I asked her, a feeling of dread washing over me. Could she really think that she was just baggage for me?
"You're not baggage for me Honey, you're my everything." I told her.

She bit her lip, looking me in the eyes again.
"But we just go on dates and cuddle, and we made out once and-" Honey began but I quickly interuptted her.
"And what? That's what couples do." I responded.
"Are we doing this because that's just what couples do?" she asked softly.
"I'm doing this because I want to be with you." I told her.

I swiftly leaned in and captured her lips in mine.
After a few agonizing seconds she returned the kiss, tanging her delicate fingers in my blond curls.
Her lips drifted across mine like feathers and I breathed in her comforting vanilla scent.
Then I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer to me.
She giggled into the kiss when I gave her waist a quick squeeze.
I tangled my hand in the soft fabric of her t-shirt, which caused it to ride up a bit and expose some skin.
Like the gentleman I was, I pretended it didn't happen and focused on breathing through my nose and kissing her at the same time.
Kissing her was like being in a whole different dimension, everything was different. Different in a beautiful blissfully sweet sort of way. I hate to be a sap but kissing her was perfect. She was perfect.
She stood up on her tiptoes and gave me a few final quick pecks. I smiled at her and she gave me a sweet smile back. I admired the sparkle in her eyes before giving her a quick peck.

"Goodnight baby." I told her, watching her climb up the ladder into her bed.
"Goodnight." she said to me.
As I turned to leave out of the corner of my eye I saw her holding her fingers to her lips with a wide smile
across her face.

The next morning...

"You ready?" I asked Honey, wrapping my arms around her from behind. She smiled at me.
"Yes, a bit nervous though." she said.
"Just think, today is the first day of the rest of our lives!"
"You mean our college lives?" Sabby asked me, approaching us ready to walk to classes.
"Whatever." I replied.

"Well we don't want to be late!" Honey squealed breaking out of my grip and trying to drag me forward by the hand.
"God forbid we be late to learn English, the language we already speak." Sabby deadpanned, rolling her eyes. We bantered the rest of the way to the academic building.

I gave Honey a kiss on the cheek.
"See you in art baby." I said.
"See you!" she replied happily, and she disappeared through the classroom door.
